The Effects of Motorcycle Helmets Upon Seeing and Hearing This study assessed the effects of motorcycle helmets upon seeing and hearing by having 50 riders operate over a test route, changing lanes in response to an audible signal under three helmet conditions: none, partial coverage, and full coverage. The study was done for the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Motorcycle Safety Unit provides basic and advanced motorcycle operator training courses through a variety of contracted sponsors. The Unit provides a variety of public awareness information about motorcycle safety and sharing the roadway with motorcycles. The Unit also trains and approves motorcycle safety instructors. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation provides information on motorcycle rider training, operator licensing & government relations. It includes information on rider courses, riding gear, and motorcycle safety for riders of all age.
